Location | MTC Studios
311 West 43rd Street (between 8th & 9th Ave.)

Class size is limited to 14 participants | $100 per student

Expert teacher Amanda Quaid begins with the fundamentals of speech, including vowels, diphthongs, and various types of consonants. Then, we explore how Shakespeare makes use of assonance, alliteration, and onomatopoeia to involve both actor and audience on a visceral level. Leave with an expanded sense of the sonic properties and possibilities of heightened text.

Teaching Methodology:

"My method of teaching is a synthesis of tools I use as a working actor and info I have been gifted and gathered over a life in the field. It’s all practical, user friendly and often flirts with music theory."

Essential Question:

How do you marry voice and text work to the truth of a classical character.

Enduring Understandings:

By delving into the text and voice actors achieve a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s text and add essential elements to their actors' toolbox.
